I got some carving knives last month and have been having a blast doing some basic carving (technically the US term is whittling as I do knife work only). So far I’ve turned out two spoons and a horse and am working on another spoon now.

Here’s my first shot, it was based on a dip spoon we have and was made from a small piece of pine (firewood).

Here’s my second spoon, this one was made based on a serving spoon. I had to modify it heavily after I discovered a crack running into the top of the spoon. Also made from pine (the same log) this one took advantage of the natural curve of the wood to make the bottom of the bowl.

My first non-spoon. I made a horse based loosely on the 10th Century one from Trondheim, Norway.
